I’m looking forward to this: hours of focus on a genre I love writing and reading.
So do join me for a masterclass on how to research and write historical fiction, or any fiction set in the past.
In person, in class, we’ll cover:
- Creating a sense of the past
- Building a convincing historical world
- Creating people – real or imagined – and giving them voice
- Research strategies, sources and tips.
Learn about the all-important questions of how to present an imagined setting based in historical reality, and balancing the perspective of a person from the past in a voice that appeals to modern readers.

Who’s this classs for?
You might be just starting out as a writer, in the early stages of your writing career, or simply interested in sharpening your skills. Perhaps you’ve written a bit, but never tried your hand at historical fiction, or are struggling a little with some of the skills required of the genre.
You might be writing commercial historical fiction, or literary fiction set in the past, or perhaps one of the many sub-genres: historical romance, fantasy or or crime, or a crossover genre like steampunk.
Any fiction inspired by the past requires a unique set of skills and approaches.
Let’s explore them together.
